THE EFFECT OF FOOD ON A PERSON
Does food affect us morally? Let’s try to figure this out. Let’s assume that there is a direct relationship between the food we eat and our sins. At first it sounds too absurd! It’s hard to believe that if we refuse to eat unclean food (pork) then we will stop getting angry, stop looking with lust, we will stop stealing, we will stop lying and so on.
Let’s try to figure this out. We will look at the beginning of the history of mankind. In creating a man, God made a covenant with him. These are the conditions of the covenant: “God blessed them: God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea, the birds in the air and every living creature that crawls on the earth.” Then God said, “Here! Throughout the whole earth I am giving you as food every seed-bearing plant and every tree with seed-bearing fruit.” (Genesis 1:28-29)
What do we see in this covenant? God created the world: planets, plants, fish, birds and animals and put a man in the center of all creation. And in this delicate time is history the Lord spoke the conditions of his food source, which was grain, fruits, and nuts. The Scriptures talk about four functions of the covenant between Adam and Eve.
- Be fruitful and multiply
- Fill the earth and rule over it
- Rule over all the animals and the fish
- Consume only the food that was predestined for you
It’s interesting that from the very beginning when relationships were just forming, the Lord speaks of the food and includes it in the covenant; the source of their nutrition.
Later, in the second chapter of Bereshit we read: “Adonai, God, gave the person this order: “You may freely eat from every tree in the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. You are not to eat from it, because on the day that you eat from it, it will become certain that you will die.” (Genesis 2:16-17) In Eden, the garden of paradise, where everything is clean and there is no sin, the Lord sets up standards and for some reason these standards are directed specifically at the food they are to eat! Why doesn’t the Lord set up other standards? For example, do not cut trees down, don’t dig canals, don’t put birds in cages, or do not swim in the river? Why specifically food?
It is also interesting, that right after the fall into sin the Lord sets additional conditions to the covenant: “To Adam he said, “Because you listened to what your wife said and ate from the tree about which I gave you the order, ‘You are not to eat from it,’ the ground is cursed on your account; you will work hard to eat from it as long as you live. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat field plants.” (Genesis 3:17-18) Now the person must farm the land and eat the fruits from the ground. Possibly, this is referred to growing grain and vegetables. In any sense, the act of sin is related to the change in their food source. The ground is now cursed and no longer brings an adequate amount of fruits on the trees to satisfy the needs of man. And the Lord God says to farm the land, growing vegetables and eating them as food. Now, man can consume as food grain, fruits, nuts and vegetables.
A new historical era is beginning; people are defiled and the moral corruption was so great that the Lord God doesn’t see a possibility to return these people to the path of salvation. He proclaims His judgment and then destroys all living things from the earth. Only Noah is saved and his family. And the Lord God announces the new stipulation of the covenant. “God blessed Noach and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will be upon every wild animal, every bird in the air, every creature populating the ground, and all the fish in the sea; they have been handed over to you. Every moving thing that lives will be food for you; just as I gave you green plants before, so now I give you everything — only flesh with its life, which is its blood, you are not to eat. I will certainly demand an accounting for the blood of your lives: I will demand it from every animal and from every human being. I will demand from every human being an accounting for the life of his fellow human being.” (Genesis 9:1-5) Again, in breaking the covenant, there are new restrictions on their food source. Meat, which was forbidden before the flood, is now allowed to be eaten as food. What is this change tied with? And why does God lift the ban off consuming animals as food? Here we can see a minimum of two reasons. First, during the flood all the food that people had to eat was now gone; destroyed. Any way, we know that the food that grew on trees is not available and God allows man to eat meat of clean animals that were found in the ark. The Lord God had the intention to allow them to consume the meat of clean animals even before the flood; and this is why He tells Noah: “Of every clean animal you are to take seven couples, and of the animals that are not clean, one couple;” (Genesis 7:2) There needed to be more pairs of clean animals, as they were to be used at food. There is also one peculiar moment in this event. The Lord God did not explain to Noah how to tell the difference between clean and unclean animals. This means that Noah knew, even before the flood, of the existence of clean and unclean animals. In all of this it is necessary to understand that meat is not the best source of food for the health of man. Secondly, meat is the factor that shortens our lifespan. Why did God allow man to eat meat of clean animals as food? Fact is, the natural length of the life of man exceeded 100 years. Man stopped seeking God’s face and because of his long lifespan his moral principles practically came to nothing. Humanity defiled itself so much that there was a need for a flood that destroyed everyone. As a result, the Lord God, having the desire to save humanity from eternal death, was forced to decrease the lifespan of man. Consuming meat of clean animals was one way to do this. Right after the flood, the length of human life was suddenly abrupt. It is enough, just to compare the lifespan of people before and after the flood. Adam lived 930 years, Mafusal 969 years, but Abraham lived only 175 years, Jacob 147 years. But Moshe in a prayer says the following words: The span of our life is seventy years, or if we are strong, eighty; yet at best it is toil and sorrow, over in a moment, and then we are gone. (Psalm 90:10)
Receiving a warning from God, did man come to understand what eating unclean animals would bring? I think not. In the contrary, man starting eating more meat of unclean animals shortening his lifespan even more; being filled with its diseases. When we say that eating unclean animal is forbidden many object the idea, claiming that this regulation was set in the Old Testament and that it has nothing in common with the New Testament era. All too often they point out the part of Scripture that speaks of purchasing food in the market place, “Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,” (1 Corinthians 10:25) However, this verse does not speak of clean and unclean food, rather about animals that were brought as offerings to idols. In addition to what was said here, it’s impossible not to mention one more piece of Scripture that talks about the second coming of our Lord Yeshua Messiah, “For — look! Adonai will come in fire, and his chariots will be like the whirlwind, to render his anger furiously, his rebuke with blazing fire. For Adonai will judge all humanity with fire and with the sword, and those slain by Adonai will be many. “Those who consecrate and purify themselves in order to enter the gardens, then follow the one who was already there, eating pig meat, reptiles and mice, will all be destroyed together,” says Adonai.” (Isaiah 66:15-17) Here we can see how we are punished when we eat meat of unclean animals. Thus, the forbiddance on eating unclean food in the New Testament is as effective as it was in the old. All the arguments today, saying that supposedly the Lord has lifted the ban off eating unclean food, does not have its foundations in the Holy Scriptures. Aside from that, what and how we consume our food and our morality indeed have a direct connection between the two. For the Lord, what we eat is so important, that He finds it necessary to include the requirements of our food supply and nutrition, while giving the law.
The list of animals that are forbidden and allowed by the Lord God as food is found in the following Scriptures: Leviticus 11; Deuteronomy 14:4-8
Aside from the limit of what animals were good, clean or unclean, other things were forbidden as well; such as blood, fat, carcass and animals that were strangled. In other words, if a person wants to continue to eat meat and in doing so wants to stay faithful to God; then he must completely drain all the blood out of the meat and cut off all the fat and also he must be certain that the animal had not been strangled and did not die of disease or anything of that sort.
To understand God’s commandment concerning clean and unclean food deeper, we will discuss why we cannot eat pork. In any type of atmosphere where swine were kept and raised, all were the same in that, that they ate leftovers and, with much satisfaction, devoured the corpses of animals at any given opportunity. Swine were created by God as cleaners, or in other words they rid the earth of any remains of dead bodies. They were not created as means of nutrition for people. In the meat of swine, we can identify tracks of helminthes (worms) such as trichina (flesh worms), tapeworms, ascaris (roundworms), and this is still far from the full list of parasites found in pork. Apparently, the main motive to prohibit pork is trichinosis – a disease caused by helminthes- round trichina. Pork contains in itself larvae of trichina that penetrate the blood into muscles. Symptoms of illness appear only 2 weeks after being affected with this disease. The symptoms may be high fever, intense pain in the muscles and swelling of soft tissues, the possibility of damage to the nervous system and the heart muscle (myocardium) and other illnesses. Today’s modern medicine is yet ineffective to fight against trichinosis and still has no drug that can successfully cure of this disease. The only method of protection from getting infected is by avoiding pork completely. Although pork is available for sale and are subject to mandatory testing for trichinosis, still there is no guarantee that you will not become ill from it. It is important to know that the pathogens of such illness, trichinosis, that consist in pork are highly resistant to external influences. It can survive in cold temperatures of -10 ͦc (14 ͦf). At one time it was believed that trichinella dies at extreme low temperatures such as -35 ͦc (-31 ͦf) and extreme high temperatures such as +100 ͦc (+212 ͦf). However, modern biological research confirms that these recommendations are absolutely ineffective, as, the larvae of trichinalla in the meat are impossible to destroy in any way. Trichinella larvae are not afraid of any parasites that are contained in pork and to this day are non-curable.
Other dangerous pathogens in pork are the tapeworm. As a result of consuming these pathogens, it affects several organs, including the brain as well. Oftentimes, the infection develops epilepsy (seizures), meningitis and increased intracranial pressure.
Roundworms in pork meat, can cause appendicitis, jaundice causing indigestion.
Other helminthes contained in pork can cause the following diseases:
- Bleeding, anemia; if the larvae enters the brain or spinal cord it may cause you to be paralyzed or even death.
- Bleeding in the lungs;
- Indigestion, diarrhea (diarrhea which kills 1,500,000 children every year)
- Jaundice;
- Bronchitis, lung abscess,
- Dyspepsia (indigestion)
- Acute, dysentery, exhaustion
A regular diet of pork leads to scrofula, leprosy and cancer and can even cause a person to have extreme, severe physical suffering. Pork can cause the following bacterial diseases:
- Tuberculosis
- Refractory fungal infection of the lower extremities;
- Cholera;
- Brucellosis- leads to permanent disability
- Swine erysipelas
- And another that is not any less dangerous to the health of a person. This disease is called listeria. This disease is caused by bacteria that affect the liver from swine that, otherwise, looked healthy from the outside. People who work at meat plants, public catering and trade, engaged in their marketing of meat products, get affected with listeria. It other words, they got infected by merely touching pork meat!!!!
Pork also can ingest with viral illnesses such as:
- Smallpox
- Japanese encephalitis
- Epidemic influenza
- We especially need to mention the viral flu. The virus’s favorite breeding area is in the connective tissue of the lungs. And there the virus sits in an invisible stage until it finds a comfortable time to reproduce. For example, in the early spring when there are not enough vitamins, with low insolation or when the body becomes extremely cold. This is yet another way to pass the infection around and epidemics of influenza. In other words, eating pork on a daily basis, you get exposed to the influenza virus daily. It is known that in the Muslim countries there are no reports of influenza infections, as they do not consume pork as part of their diet.
According to the news agency associated press, researchers at the Institute of Pathology of the Armed Forces of the USA conducted a study of some tissue samples from the exhumed corpse that rested in an Alaskan cemetery in 1918, in order to identify the causes of the epidemic flu; which killed 21 million people in the beginning of the 21st century. According to Dr. Jeffrey K. Tobenbergera, recruited to the study, this kind of flu is not comparable with the known forms of viruses in today’s science, but that it is clearly related to the so-called “swine flu”. Although in the beginning of the century this virus was known as the “Spanish flu”, today we have all the reasons to believe that the first carriers of the virus were indeed swine. These scientific discoveries give us reason to believe that the most dangerous type of flu is that, which is found in swine. Most scientists say that, in the time being, swine act as a mediator between humans and birds. Birds are the first to carry the disease and they infect swine. Their immune system, then, fights with the disease and as a result ends up changing the genetics of the virus; thus, ending up with a different virus from the original. The epidemic of the “swine flu” outraged in the year 1918 and took 100 thousand lives in the USA. US troops, being mobilized for the Second World War, began spreading the virus beyond the country’s borders, carrying it throughout the whole world. The so-called “Asian” and Hong Kong” flu also had their origins from swine.
Another interesting fact about pigs: after intense research of the cells of swine, the scientists all over the world came to one conclusion: the fat cell of swine does not dissolve in the stomach acid of a person, instead it stays in the human body, accounting a foreign body which is then transformed into a malignant tumor… (KV Bobrischev Kiev “ASK”, Book Service 1996, p.43)
In the year 1995, an experiment that was conducted on rats was published. The experiment consisted of two groups of white rats. The experimental group was fed pork and the controlled group was not fed pork. The result was that the white rats that fed on pork had a tendency of cannibalism. In the feeding process of a few months to a year, they developed cancer in various parts of their body and skin disease that the rats in the controlled group did not have. Those practically did not have any cannibalism either. The results of the comprehensive analysis showed toxic and carcinogenic effect of pork in the body of the experimental animals.
It is also known that dog-boxers are not fed pork because otherwise they will have a skin disease accompanied by intense itching. Some animals of the circus (lions, tigers) are also not fed pork to avoid excessive weight gain, high blood pressure and nosebleeds. Manufacturers of trout noticed that if they fed blended pork to the fish, then the process of fish abruptly ceased, and subsequently killed trout.
Another idea stirs up interest about the composition of Lard. Mammals (including humans) derive naturally 90% of their water in the form of urine; the remaining 10% of this substance in the form of sweat. Swine are the only mammal that exasperated naturally only 10% of fluid. Where does the remaining 90% of this liquid, that is produced as urine, go? Biology gives an answer to this question, the remaining 90% that is not derived as urine is converted into the famous Lard (Bacon).
Some people think that it is ok to eat a little bit of pork. They are mistaken. A shred amount is also a poison that enters into the weak parts of the body. Unfortunately, many doctors display total incompetence in this matter. Sometimes instead of prohibiting the use to a sick pig, they strongly recommend it, as a dietary product. According to Dr. H Reckeweg, we must always remember that pork is of a toxic material (fat, mucus, histamine, initiators of inflammation, dangerous hormones, etc.) which is rotting in the intestine of a person.
It should also be noted that almost all varieties of meat products (sausages, kielbasas) contain either pork or bacon with the exception of those identifying that they lack pork. The packaging should mention: contains no pork. Lard or pork sausage is added for softness. That is how it is manufactured as sausages. Also keep in mind that the manufacturer does not always indicate the full composition of the components in the final product.
